1. The BFG (2016). Directed by Steven Spielberg. 64%.

The BFG (2016) score: 64%

We all know what ‘BFG’ stands for, but it would be more appropriate for this film if it stood for Bit Fucking Gradual. It is an agonisingly meandering movie. However, visually, it is arresting, with some truly gorgeous (though not exactly ground-breaking) effects.

We’re all familiar with the story and Spielberg sensibly doesn’t deviate from it. This is initially satisfying, but it means the material is stretched rather thin considering it runs just three minutes shy of two hours. But it is directed, written and acted with endearment, so it’s hard not to enjoy it even just a little bit.
