Day 23. Step Brothers (2008). Directed by Adam McKay.

Step Brothers (2008) score: 61%

The occasional hilarious moments in Step Brothers aren’t enough to make it hugely memorable. The tone and consistency of Anchorman and The Other Guys are of a much higher standard.

The high concept ‘full retard‘ mode of the performances and the stretched material would make Step Brothers a great regular segment in a TV sketch show. At feature-length the tone is odd and the film is forgettable, despite some standout comic scenes. You’d be forgiven for thinking you were watching something family-friendly, up until the moment you witness Will Ferrell flopping his prosthetic bollocks onto John C. Reilly’s drum set.
