The Dark Knight (2008) score: 87%
I firmly believe that villain quality dictates overall film quality. Thus The Dark Knight is unforgettable, because that’s what Heath Ledger’s off-kilter and purposely underdeveloped Joker is.
However, I have two problems with the film that almost disrupt my enjoyment. My first is Gary Oldman’s diction. People complain about Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, but it’s nothing compared to Oldman’s near-silent mumbling in TDK. My second issue is Harvey Dent’s hard-to-buy afterthought of a transition from boring nice person to psychotic madman who’s prepared to shoot a child. Ledger’s iconic performance saves the film and makes it great.
