Day 38. The LEGO Batman Movie (2017). Directed by Chris McKay.

The LEGO Batman Movie (2017) score: 74%

Batman’s own LEGO movie is huge ADHD fun, with a rhythmically bombastic score and memorable vocal performances.

However, as funny as Batman and his abs are, his overly child-friendly limit of character traits (amongst other limited aspects) means the film feels lite.

It’s also tonally scattershot. It’s crammed with adult-pleasing references. They kept me happy but they even help to form the main plot. As the film’s 100% aimed at young children who won’t get them, it feels less cohesive than LEGO’s first film.

Even so, I’m glad Batman got the first spin-off. I’m sure every kid out there is too.
