Twister (1996) score: 69%
Twister contains one of Bill Paxton’s most well-known roles. It’s not his best or most iconic; he’s had far edgier roles and he’s almost upstaged by the also-late Philip Seymour Hoffman starring in a role that should have been purely expendable.
Regardless, Twister featured heavily in my movie-loving childhood. It’s Spielberg-lite material that I’m well aware is at the lower end of the artistic spectrum, but I remember it being immense fun. It was funny when it didn’t take itself seriously and scary when it did. And it still is. The effects even hold up respectably despite their heavy application.
