Day 47. Alien: Resurrection (1997). Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet

Alien: Resurrection (1997) score: 60%

Alien: Resurrection is confident and consistent, particularly in terms of tone and character motivations. It’s also fun, which Alien 3 definitely wasn’t.

But it’s still not in the same league as Alien or Aliens. It has a cheaper feel and it could afford to take itself more seriously because there are some terrifying and claustrophobic ideas behind it which could be even scarier.

Having said that, Joss Whedon wrote a great script. It would have been a great film if it wasn’t made to be part of the Alien franchise and didn’t shoehorn in its protagonist for the sake of it.
