Kong: Skull Island (2017) score: 70%
Kong: Skull Island is good honest fun, though it’s a little methodical in its introduction of the quite clichéd characters and too formulaically parallel with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla. You also see this Kong within the first couple of minutes and I’m not sure that’s a good thing. It feels too much like an apology by the producers to the impatient, addled masses for having to wait so long to see Godzilla.
Having said that, the cast is extremely strong and the cinematography and CGI effects are incredible. It’s also far more concise than Peter Jackson’s Kong, which is very welcome.
