Day 51. Goat (2016). Directed by Andrew Neel

Goat (2016) score: 61%

Goat is transfixing only for one reason: the downright scary scenes of hazing. I couldn’t help but feel sorry not just for the people who endured it for real, but the actors portraying it. It felt like I was watching real scenes of fraternity brutality. As a biographical adaptation this works very much in its favour.

In terms of narrative, Goat isn’t quite so inspired or brave. Nick Jonas and Ben Schnetzer’s brother duo have a very generic and forced journey throughout the film. It actually sometimes feels like an afterthought, implemented to ensure it didn’t get classified as mumblecore.
