Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) score: 77%
After the brilliantly fun Brad Bird-directed Ghost Protocol, who’d have thought that Rogue Nation would be much more than half as good? But it’s even slightly better, due largely to some well-placed classiness, a more memorable villain (thanks Sean Harris), and a more satisfying ending.
Unfortunately the plot, featuring the dastardly efforts of an organisation out to get the IMF, is only slightly more original than Ghost Protocol’s, but when everything is so eloquently executed it’s hard to care. Every sequence is gorgeously and authentically realised, and needless to say what Tom Cruise gets up to is once again jaw-dropping.
