The Man from Earth (2007) score: 44%
The Man from Earth could’ve been so immersive.
The story, surrounding a man trying to persuade his colleagues that he’s actually thousands of years old, could have formed an interesting sci-fi character drama, but instead it limps along indifferently. The dialogue is so awkwardly underdone that it’s hard to find the performances convincing, despite the actors’ best efforts. I’ve not seen another film where the actors have sounded or looked so unavoidably bored when it’s not their turn to talk.
Simply put, there’s no conviction in any aspect of the film, particularly the direction, despite it having a strong concept.
