Over the Hedge (2006) score: 63%
Over the Hedge is digestible, but it doesn’t leave you feeling full. While the inspirational voice acting from Steve Carell as an eternally wired squirrel is consistently hilarious, there are few other characters who are worth remembering despite some serious star-power behind them.
The script isn’t terribly memorable either. While there are some intermittently inventive visual gags, it lacks general substance. That’s not surprising considering the story’s comic strip origins, but it is considering how many writers worked on it.
Having said that it was never boring, so it was at least a step up for Dreamworks after Shark Tale.
