Day 67. The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). Directed by Steven Spielberg

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) score: 62%

Jurassic Park 3 was rubbish because it was a cheap cash in that had a mediocre director. What’s The Lost World’s excuse? Steven Spielberg? Check. A cast that includes two main actors from the first film and Pete Postlethwaite? Check. Um, well, that’s where the positives end.

The new characters mostly suck, especially Julianne Moore’s. She serves no purpose other than to annoy and frustrate with misplaced stupidity. There’s less puppetry and more (unimpressive) CGI. Despite some inspired sequences, there’s less tension due to a limited build-up, and in general it feels more like a laboured service than something to behold.
