75. High-Rise (2015). Directed by Ben Wheatley

High-Rise (2015) score: 60%ish

What score should I give High-Rise? I don’t know if Ben Wheatley’s take on J. G. Ballard’s book is high art or highly awful.

The High-Rise book was once deemed unfilmable. After decades of production hell there’s finally a film, and it’s unratable. It’s a wholly divisive film that audiences can only love or hate. It’s art, and art by definition is subjective. Its central metaphor does get you thinking about the unfortunate class system that’s eternally in place, but it’s a simple one. As such, does it need such an expressive two hour long film to embody it?
