89. Wonder Woman (2017). Directed by Patty Jenkins

Wonder Woman (2017) score: 91%

How can DC’s output go so seamlessly from frustrating to brilliant? Because Zack Snyder isn’t directing this one. Monster‘s Patty Jenkins provides a much more comprehensive sense of narrative and direction by exercising far more self-control than Snyder previously has.

The casting is also spot-on. Gal Gadot is endlessly watchable. She begins with endearing naivety and changes believably by the end into the powerful Goddess that we all know her as. Its this naivety that provides heart-warming and genuine comic relief with Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor and that makes this potentially weak origin story into something that’s anything but.
